LOUIS TURPEN

Louis graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1962 majoring in Chief Engineering and specializing in Airfield Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance. He was selected as one of 12 officers to quickly establish airfields for U.S. contingency intervention. As Director of San Francisco Operations, he rebuilt the terminal complex and inaugurated the construction of the new International Terminal in 2000. He developed the first Airport Counter Terrorism Plan used as the model for U.S. airports by the government, and developed the first comprehensive noise mitigation program. In 1995, Louis led the largest airport privatization in North America, transferring control of Toronto’s Pearson Airport to a private corporation. He was President and CEO of the Greater Toronto Airport Authority and developed a 3.7 million-square-foot new terminal, pioneering the first “Street Pricing” concept in airport retail. He served as a member of the Airports Council International World Governing Board, representing more than 1,400 airports in 167 countries. Currently President of the San Francisco Aeronautical Society, he dedicates time to preserving the history of commercial aviation in the Pacific.
